Bytown 200 – A Musical Journey Through Ottawa’s History is a new, five-concert cultural tourism initiative created specifically for Ottawa’s 200th anniversary. The project offers an immersive musical exploration of Ottawa’s origins, its early soundscape, and its evolution from Bytown to the nation’s capital. Each concert highlights a different chapter of the city’s history through music, narration, archival imagery, and professionally filmed performance.
Bytown 200 – Un voyage musical à travers l’histoire d’Ottawa est une nouvelle initiative touristique de cinq concerts créée spécialement pour le 200e anniversaire d’Ottawa. Le projet propose une exploration musicale immersive des origines d’Ottawa, de son paysage sonore des débuts et de son évolution vers la capitale nationale. Chaque concert met en lumière un chapitre différent de l’histoire de la ville à travers la musique, la narration, des images d’archives et des prestations filmées de manière professionnelle.

Music composed, performed, or published in 1826, the founding year of Bytown, featuring well-known composers (including Beethoven Schubert, Mendelssohn, Weber, Rossini) and works from Europe, North America, and early Canada. One highlight will be a performance of a Beethoven work written for a Canadian It is a canon called Freu Dich Des Lebens by Ludwig van Beethoven, and dedicated to Theodore Frederic Molt. The manuscript is now held by Library and Archives Canada. It was first performed in 1826.
Musique composée, interprétée ou publiée en 1826, année de fondation de Bytown, mettant en vedette des compositeurs célèbres (dont Beethoven, Schubert et Mendelssohn), ainsi que des œuvres provenant d’Europe, d’Amérique du Nord et du Canada naissant. Une œuvre constitue une référence importante écrite pour un Canadien. Il s’agit d’un rare manuscrit aujourd’hui conservé à Bibliothèque et Archives Canada.
