DESCRIPTION  OF THE VARIOUS POSITIONS OF VOLUNTEERS

Head of the room

  • You are the first point of contact for all artists, spectators and volunteers.
  • You can delegate tasks to other volunteers.
  • Punctual (-le) and organized (-e), you have a room manager or customer service experience.
  • You know Music and Beyond and all the activities we organize (Ottawa Music Expo, musical adventures and Festival Plus events).
  • You are able to balance the totals of the ticket office and note any discrepancies to submit to our accountant.

Opener

  • You are the first point of contact for spectators to help them find their seats, answer their questions about the show in particular or Music and Beyond in general.
  • Kind, you like to interact with people from all walks of life.
  • You are able to follow the instructions of the manager.
  • You are able to work without supervision and adapt your personality to that of other volunteers.

Supervisor

  • You are the first point of contact for all artists and volunteers.
  • You can delegate tasks to other volunteers.
  • Punctual (-le) and organized (-e), you have experience as a technical director and a manager.
  • Professional (-le), you are able to adapt your personality to that of artists and volunteers as needed.

Machinist

  • You are the first point of contact for all artists.
  • You are able to follow the instructions of the manager.
  • You can easily lift and carry equipment weighing up to 40 pounds.
  • You like to interact with the artists and know how to stay professional (-le) at all times.
  • You are able to work without supervision and adapt your personality to that of other volunteers.

Attendant (-e) at ticket sales and CD sales 

  • You are the first point of contact for all artists, spectators and volunteers.
  • Punctual (-le), meticulous (-se) and organized (-e), you have experience in the field of ticketing or customer service.
  • You know Music and Beyond and all the activities we organize (the Ottawa Music Expo, musical adventures and Plus Festival events).
  • You are able to count and balance cash funds as well as note any discrepancies to submit to our accountant.

Office support 

* Including before and after an event 

  • Punctual (-le), meticulous (-se) and organized (-e), you have experience in the field of ticketing or customer service.
  • You know Music and Beyond and all the activities we organize (the Ottawa Music Expo, musical adventures and Plus Festival events).
  • You like working in an office where you will be responsible for dealing with the material to be distributed, preparing material for concerts and other general administrative tasks.
  • You are able to work without supervision, as needed, and know how to adapt your personality to that of other volunteers.

Photographer / Videographer

* Limited positions: priority will be given to volunteers with experience

  • You like photography and have your own camera and your own tripod.
  • You like to create videos and shoot live shows. You have your own video material.
  • You like working in the festival community, indoors and outdoors.
  • You are ready (-e) to work with a roadmap ( provided in advance ) and to review and submit the files / videos within tight deadlines ( usually within 24 hours ) for marketing purposes.

Assistant Social Media Manager

  • You LOVE social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram).
  • You have your own smart phone and do not hesitate to use it for the needs of Music and Beyond
  • You are ready (-e) to work within the settings set by the room manager to ensure that the images, language, and # hashtags displayed are appropriate. * Very strict guidelines will have to be followed, as any adverse publication may result in legal action.  

DESCRIPTION OF VOLUNTEER TASKS FOR MUSICAL ADVENTURES

Makeup artist / makeup artist in music note

  • Kind and full-spirited, you like to interact with children of all ages.
  • You have already worked with face paints and stencils.

Workshop leader 

  • Kind and full-spirited, you like to interact with children of all ages.
  • You like to make crafts and know how to use your creativity to inspire all participants.

Information Officer 

  • You are the first point of contact for visitors.
  • Kind, you like to interact with people from all walks of life.
  • You are able to follow the instructions of the on-site coordinator.
  • You know Music and Beyond and all the activities we organize (the Ottawa Music Expo, musical adventures and Plus Festival events).

Plateau team and operations 

  • You are able to follow the instructions of the on-site coordinator.
  • You like being busy (-e) and know how to perform several tasks at once, inside and out (assembly and dismounting of the event / technical support and on stage, garbage collection and recyclables).
  • You can easily lift and carry equipment weighing up to 40 pounds.
  • You are able to work without supervision, as needed, and know how to adapt your personality to that of other volunteers.

Photographer / Videographer

Assistant Social Media Manager

  • You are ready (-e) to work within the parameters established by the coordinator on site to ensure that the images, language, and # hashtags displayed are appropriate. * Very strict guidelines will have to be followed, as any adverse publication may result in legal action.  

DESCRIPTION OF VOLUNTEER TASKS FOR THE OTTAWA MUSIC EXPO 

Information Officer

  • You are the first point of contact for visitors at the information booth or when you move around the festival grounds.
  • Kind, you like to interact with people from all walks of life.
  • You are able to perform multiple tasks at a time, such as recording hourly arrivals, providing passports and information about the Ottawa Music Expo and answering questions.
  • Organized (-e), you make sure that the information booth never misses promotional documents, passports or other necessary things.
  • You are able to follow the instructions of the on-site coordinator.
  • You know the festival Music and Beyond. * For this position, you will need to attend an introductory session on the festival and read documents to review before your work period.

Home

  • You are the first point of contact for all artists, volunteers and visitors entering the halls and designated buildings of the University of Ottawa.
  • Kind and enjoyable, you like to interact with all the participants (artists and volunteers) when you host and direct them to the designated rooms and activities as needed.
  • You make sure that the performance times are respected in all places to facilitate the movement in other buildings and other rooms.
  • You are able to follow the instructions of the on-site coordinator.
  • You know the festival Music and Beyond. * For this position, you will need to attend an introductory session on the festival and read documents to review before your work period.

 Site team

  • You like to work indoors and outdoors – you will have to walk a lot.
  • You are able to follow the instructions of the on-site coordinator.
  • You like being busy (-e) and know how to perform several tasks at once, inside and out (assembly and dismounting of the event / technical support and on stage, garbage collection and recyclables).
  • You can easily lift and carry equipment weighing up to 40 pounds.
  • You are able to work without supervision, as needed, and know how to adapt your personality to that of other volunteers.

Opener

  • You like to help set up and dismantle the activities and prepare the rooms before and after performances (music stands, chairs, signage, etc.).
  • You like talking with parents and children of all ages. You are comfortable when you assign seats to spectators and make sure that the rules of the house are observed.
  • Friendly and full-spirited, you know how to answer questions, distribute programs and passports as needed.
  • You are aware of the performances taking place in all the rooms of a designated building.

Officer (-e) at the zoo of instruments

* Limited positions: priority will be given to volunteers who know how to play several instruments

  • You like to assemble and dismount the different types of instruments and know how to follow the assembly instructions required.
  • Kind and full, you like talking with parents and kids of all ages.

Photographer / Videographer

* Limited positions: priority will be given to volunteers with experience

  • You like photography and have your own camera and your own tripod.
  • You like to create videos and shoot live shows. You have your own video material.
  • You like working in the festival community, indoors and outdoors.
  • You interact easily with parents and children of all ages and ask for permission to take pictures or film.

  • You like to “not be anywhere in particular, but to be where you are needed”.
  • You know how to perform several tasks at once by helping the various teams present at the Ottawa Music Expo.
  • You can easily lift and carry equipment weighing up to 40 pounds.
  • You are able to work without supervision, as needed, and know how to adapt your personality to that of other volunteers.
