VOLUNTEER DESCRIPTIONS

House Manager

  • You are the first point of contact for all Artists, Patrons and Volunteers.
  • You are a natural leader and are comfortable delegating tasks to fellow Volunteers.
  • You are timely and organized and may have previous Front of House or Customer Service experience.
  • You are knowledgeable about Music and Beyond and all of the events under its umbrella (Ottawa Music Expo, Musical Adventures @ and Festival Plus events).
  • You are able to balance Box Office totals and record any discrepancies for our accountant to review

Usher

  • You are the first point of contact for patrons with regards to finding seating, answering questions specific to the show or Music and Beyond in general.
  • You are friendly and enjoy interacting with all different “walks of life.”
  • You are capable of following direction as per tasks assigned by the House Manager.
  • You are able to work independently as required and are able to adapt your personality to suit other Volunteer personalities. 

Stage Manager

  • You are the first point of contact for all Artists and Volunteers.
  • You are a natural leader and are comfortable delegating tasks to fellow Volunteers.
  • You are timely and organized and have some basic Technical and Stage Manager experience.
  • You are able to be professional and adapt your personality to accommodate different personalities from Artists and Volunteers as necessary.

Stagehands

  • You are the first point of contact for all Artists.
  • You are capable of following direction as per tasks assigned by the Stage Manager.
  • You are easily able to lift and carry up to 40 lbs.
  • You enjoy interacting with the Artists and are able to remain professional at all times.
  • You are able to work independently as required and are able to adapt your personality to suit other Volunteer personalities.

Box Office/CD Sales

  • You are the first point of contact for all Artists, Patrons and Volunteers.
  • You are timely, detail-oriented, organized and may have previous Box Office or Customer Service experience.
  • You are knowledgeable about Music and Beyond and all of the events under its umbrella (Ottawa Music Expo, Musical Adventures @ and Festival Plus events).
  • You are able to count and balance floats and record any discrepancies for our accountant to review.

Office Support

*Pre-Event and Post-Event included

  • You are timely, detail-oriented, organized and have previous Box Office or Customer Service experience.
  • You are knowledgeable about Music and Beyond and all of the events under its umbrella (Ottawa Music Expo, Musical Adventures @ and Festival Plus events).
  • You enjoy working in an office environment where you will be tasked with processing materials to be distributed, preparing materials for concerts, and other general administrative duties.
  • You are able to work independently as required and are able to adapt your personality to suit other Volunteer personalities. 

Photographers / Videographers

*limited positions – priority will be given to volunteers with experience

  • You enjoy photography and have your own personal camera and tripod
  • You enjoy creating “vine” videos as well as taking footage of live performances and have your own video equipment
  • You enjoy working in a Festival environment, both indoors and outdoors
  • You are willing to work with a shot list (to be provided in advance) as well as edit and submit files/videos within a tight time frame (generally within 24 hours) for marketing purposes

Social Media Assistants

  • You have a LOVE of all social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram)
  • You have your own smartphone and are comfortable using it for Music and Beyond Festival purposes
  • You are willing to work within the parameters set out by the House Manager to ensure appropriate images, language and #hashtags are posted *Strict guidelines will have to be followed as any harmful posts made may result in legal action

OTTAWA FAMILY MUSIC EXPO

VOLUNTEER DESCRIPTIONS

Information Attendants

  • You are the first point of contact for Attendees at the Information Booth or walking along the outer rim of the Festival grounds.
  • You are friendly and enjoy interacting with all different “walks of life.”
  • You are capable of multi-tasking and ensuring the arrival numbers on the Festival grounds are recorded hourly, provide passports and information about Ottawa Music Expo and field questions as necessary.
  • You are organized and can ensure the Information Booth is well-stocked with marketing materials, passports, and any other event necessities.
  • You are capable of following direction as per tasks assigned by the On-Site Coordinator.
  • You are knowledgeable about the Music and Beyond Festival  *pre-Festival orientation will be required for this position as well as reading materials to be reviewed prior to your shift

Site Host

  • You are the first point of contact for all performers, volunteers and participants who enter assigned University of Ottawa buildings and rooms.
  • You are outgoing and friendly and enjoy interacting with all participants (performers, volunteers) to check them in and direct them to assigned rooms and tasks as required.
  • You are comfortable ensuring performance times throughout venue are adhered to the best of your abilities in order to promote flow through other buildings and rooms.
  • You are capable of following direction as per tasks assigned by the On-Site Coordinator
  • You are knowledgeable about the Music and Beyond Festival   *pre-Festival orientation will be required for this position as well as reading materials to be reviewed prior to your shift

Site Crew

  • You enjoy working indoors/outdoors – there will be a lot of walking
  • You are capable of following direction as per tasks assigned by the On-Site Coordinator.
  • You enjoy keeping busy and are able to multi-task with a variety of indoor/outdoor duties (site setup/teardown, technical/stage support, garbage/recycling collection)
  • You are easily able to lift and carry up to 40 lbs.
  • You are able to work independently as required and are able to adapt your personality to suit other Volunteer personalities.

Usher

  • You enjoy assisting in the setup/teardown & prepare the room(s) before and after the performances (music stands, chairs, signage, etc.).
  • You enjoy interacting with parents and children of all ages and are comfortable seating the audience and ensuring house rules are being observed as required.
  • You are outgoing and friendly and are comfortable answering questions, handing out programs or passports as required.
  • You are interested and knowledgeable about the performances going on in all rooms within the assigned building.

Instrument Petting Zoo

*limited positions – priority will be given to volunteers with experience playing multiple instruments

  • You enjoy assisting in the setup/teardown of all different types of instruments and are able to follow direction for any assembly required.
  • You are outgoing and friendly and enjoy interacting with parents and children of all ages.

Photographers / Videographers

*limited positions – priority will be given to volunteers with experience

  • You enjoy photography and have your own personal camera and tripod

  • You are comfortable multi-tasking and providing support to all areas of the Ottawa Music Expo.
  • You are easily able to lift and carry up to 40 lbs.
  • You are able to work independently as required and are able to adapt your personality to suit other Volunteer personalities.
