The project offers an immersive musical exploration of Ottawa’s origins\, its early soundscape\, and its evolution from Bytown to the nation’s capital. Each concert highlights a different chapter of the city’s history through music\, narration\, archival imagery\, and professionally filmed performance. \n  \nBytown 200 – Un voyage musical à travers l’histoire d’Ottawa est une nouvelle initiative touristique de cinq concerts créée spécialement pour le 200e anniversaire d’Ottawa. One highlight will be a performance of a Beethoven work written for a Canadian  It is a canon called Freu Dich Des Lebens by Ludwig van Beethoven\, and dedicated to Theodore Frederic Molt. The manuscript is now held by Library and Archives Canada. The ensemble is particularly recognized for its interpretations of Romantic repertoire performed on period instruments. \nHighly active in Montréal\, the ensemble founded Les ruelles musicales in 2020\, a summer concert series that brings chamber music into the heart of Montréal’s neighbourhoods. The project has led to several interdisciplinary collaborations\, notably with dancer Axelle Munezero and dancer Sébastien Provencher. \nCommitted to education\, the Cobalt Quartet has been teaching chamber music at the CAMMAC Music Centre since 2022. Previously\, the ensemble served as collaborating quartet at the Domaine Forget International Academy for four years and as ensemble-in-residence at the Université de Montréal. \nGuillaume Villeneuve’s 1866 Jean-Baptiste Vuillaume violin and 1955 Arthur Copley (W.E Hill & Sons) bow\, Diane Bayard’s 1751 Antonio Gragnani violin and c.1925 Victor Fétique bow\, as well as François Leclerc’s c.1790-1810 Pietro Antonio Cateni cello and Gustav Prager bow are generously loaned by Canimex. \n  \nQuatuor Cobalt \nFondé à Montréal en 2017\, le Quatuor Cobalt occupe aujourd’hui une place singulière sur la scène canadienne par la cohérence de sa vision artistique et l’ampleur de ses projets. L’ensemble se démarque notamment par son interprétation du répertoire romantique sur instruments d’époque. \nTrès actif à Montréal\, l’ensemble a créé Les ruelles musicales en 2020\, une série estivale qui ancre la musique de chambre au cœur de la vie montréalaise. Ce projet a donné lieu à plusieurs collaborations interdisciplinaires\, notamment avec la danseuse Axelle Munezero et le danseur Sébastien Provencher. \nEngagé dans la transmission\, le Quatuor Cobalt enseigne la musique de chambre au Centre musical CAMMAC depuis 2022. In addition to playing both with the Orchestra and in recital\, he sees to the development and showcasing of Casavant’s op. 3900 installed at the Maison symphonique in Montréal. \nJean-Willy Kunz has premiered numerous pieces for organ and orchestra\, and for solo organ\, by Tod Machover\, John Rea\, Samy Moussa\, Maxime Goulet\, and others. A highlight among his many solo performances at the Maison symphonique was a recital presented in 2017 in collaboration with NASA\, during which a live audio-video duplex with an astronaut aboard the International Space Station allowed for the first ever Earth-Space organ duet. \nHis interest and versatility in different styles of music are reflected in the various projects he has been involved with for several years\, and which shed new light on the pipe organ\, including jazz music in a duo with Branford Marsalis\, pop music with Rufus Wainwright\, and stage music with the Cirque du Soleil. His discography includes 15 recordings which reflect the broad range of his musical influences: a solo organ album\, Impressions with the jazz ensemble InSpirations\, a 2016 Juno-awarded album with the Montreal Symphony Orchestra\, and many more. \nJean-Willy Kunz studied with Louis Robilliard and with Mireille Lagacé\, before completing a doctorate in organ performance at McGill University with John Grew. He is an organ professor at the Conservatory of Music in Montréal and artistic director of the Canadian International Organ Competition. \n  \nJean-Willy Kunz est l’organiste en résidence de l’Orchestre symphonique de Montréal. En plus de jouer avec l’Orchestre ainsi qu’en récital\, il assure le développement et la mise en valeur du Grand Orgue Pierre-Béique de l’OSM\, opus 3900 de Casavant Frères\, installé dans la Maison symphonique de Montréal. \nJean-Willy Kunz a créé plusieurs œuvres pour orgue et orchestre ainsi que pour orgue seul des compositeurs Tod Machover\, John Rea\, Samy Moussa\, Maxime Goulet\, et d’autres. Coward \n  \nLucy Landymore is an award-winning multi-percussionist\, drummer and composer. As a soloist\, she continues to give concerts of her own compositions in prestigious venues worldwide. As the drum kit soloist with the World of Hans Zimmer\, she frequently performs in sold-out arenas worldwide. She previously toured with Hans Zimmer Live\, which can be seen on the DVD Live in Prague. Hans Zimmer invited Lucy\, together with Igudesman & Joo\, to perform at the release of his new documentary Hollywood Rebel\, by performing special arrangements of his film scores at BBC Studios in Cannes. \nLucy has since been featured as a performer and composer on numerous TV and Radio stations showcasing her unique work\, including Sky TV with Michael Parkinson\, Deutsche Welle\, BBC 2\, BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge\, BBC Radio 1 and BBC Radio 3 among many others. We are asking students of various education levels (high school\, bachelor’s\, etc.) to perform 5-10 minutes of solo music for any percussion instrumentation or submit a composition for vibraphone for live feedback from Lucy.\n\nLucy will discuss when traditional harmonic rules can strengthen a composition\, as well as when they can be deliberately ignored.\n  \nComposition pour vibraphone \nPourquoi composons-nous? As the drum kit soloist with the World of Hans Zimmer\, she frequently performs in sold-out arenas worldwide. She previously toured with Hans Zimmer Live\, which can be seen on the DVD Live in Prague. Hans Zimmer invited Lucy\, together with Igudesman & Joo\, to perform at the release of his new documentary Hollywood Rebel\, by performing special arrangements of his film scores at BBC Studios in Cannes. \nLucy has since been featured as a performer and composer on numerous TV and Radio stations showcasing her unique work\, including Sky TV with Michael Parkinson\, Deutsche Welle\, BBC 2\, BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge\, BBC Radio 1 and BBC Radio 3 among many others. Many international publications have featured Lucy’s work\, including the German Drums & Percussion magazine and the French Batterie magazine\, where Lucy was listed as one of the Top 10 New Drummers of 2019. \n  \nLucy Landymore est une percussionniste multi-instrumentiste\, batteuse et compositrice primée. As a soloist\, she continues to give concerts of her own compositions in prestigious venues worldwide. As the drum kit soloist with the World of Hans Zimmer\, she frequently performs in sold-out arenas worldwide. She previously toured with Hans Zimmer Live\, which can be seen on the DVD Live in Prague. Hans Zimmer invited Lucy\, together with Igudesman & Joo\, to perform at the release of his new documentary Hollywood Rebel\, by performing special arrangements of his film scores at BBC Studios in Cannes. \nLucy has since been featured as a performer and composer on numerous TV and Radio stations showcasing her unique work\, including Sky TV with Michael Parkinson\, Deutsche Welle\, BBC 2\, BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge\, BBC Radio 1 and BBC Radio 3 among many others. Many international publications have featured Lucy’s work\, including the German Drums & Percussion magazine and the French Batterie magazine\, where Lucy was listed as one of the Top 10 New Drummers of 2019. \n  \nLucy Landymore est une percussionniste multi-instrumentiste\, batteuse et compositrice primée. From the roaring\, carefree jazz age\, into the instability of the depression and the increasing awareness of the surrounding rise of fascism in Italy (to the east)\, then Spain (to the west) then Germany. The ensemble has been curated by Artistic Director and Principal Conductor Michael Zaugg since his appointment in 2012.  \nFounded in 1981 by Canadian conductor Michel Marc Gervais\, Pro Coro Canada’s sound has been shaped by some of the world’s leading choral conductors\, including Gervais\, Anders Eby (Sweden)\, Søren Hansen (Denmark)\, Agnes Grossmann (Austria)\, and Richard Sparks (USA).  \nThe choir takes particular pride in its composer-in-residence program with internationally renowned composer Alberto Grau\, its role as faculty in the Choral Art program at the Banff Centre\, and its critically acclaimed tours across four provinces. We’re looking for the stories behind why you love this piece of music. \nIf your music and story is selected for this concert\, you will win ten tickets to invite friends and family. There will also be one Grand Prize Winner who will win two passes to the 2027 Music and Beyond festival. \nRules to enter: \nPlease suggest a piece of music for us to include and why you would like to hear it.
