Framed like an imagined film without visuals\, the  \nconcert traces a journey from outward motion to inner reflection beginning with Rota and  \nMascagni\, reaching its dramatic core in Piazzolla’s Histoire du Tango\, and gradually  \ndissolving into dream and memory through Debussy\, Fauré\, Massenet\, and Amy Beach.  \nThe result is a vividly structured listening experience where each work functions as a  \nscene in an evolving emotional screenplay\, moving from city-like energy to introspection\,  \ndream\, and lyrical resolution.  \n  \nHistoires sonores : un film sans images est un programme cinématographique pour  \nflûte et harpe dans lequel la musique devient elle-même récit. Conçu comme un film  \nimaginaire sans images\, le concert trace un parcours allant du mouvement extérieur vers  \nl’intériorité débutant avec Rota et Mascagni\, atteignant son cœur dramatique avec  \nHistoire du Tango de Piazzolla\, puis se dissolvant progressivement dans le rêve et la  \nmémoire à travers Debussy\, Fauré\, Massenet et Amy Beach. In this talk\, we explore how the physics of resonance illuminates sound production in bowed string instruments like the violin. For players\, this understanding provides a powerful foundation for refining tone\, intonation\, and expression\, unlocking the infinite sonic possibilities inherent in the instrument’s resonances. For listeners\, it deepens appreciation of the vast\, nuanced soundscape a master violinist can create\, transforming the listening experience into something even more immersive and profound. \nA key insight is the distinction between two types of resonance in the violin. The first consists of the instrument’s intrinsic body resonances: fixed characteristics shaped by its wood\, varnish\, geometry\, and craftsmanship. These give each violin its unique voice and are excited by vibrational energy transmitted from the strings through the bridge. The second type involves the playable resonances of the strings themselves\, directly shaped and controlled by the bow. These are the resonances the musician can access in real time and form the central focus of this talk.By bridging physics and performance practice\, we’ll discover how awareness of these resonances opens doors to greater mastery and heightened musical wonder. \n  \n  \nLa résonance est au cœur des sonorités riches et complexes que nous percevons en musique. The project has led to several interdisciplinary collaborations\, notably with dancer Axelle Munezero and dancer Sébastien Provencher. \nCommitted to education\, the Cobalt Quartet has been teaching chamber music at the CAMMAC Music Centre since 2022. Previously\, the ensemble served as collaborating quartet at the Domaine Forget International Academy for four years and as ensemble-in-residence at the Université de Montréal. \nGuillaume Villeneuve’s 1866 Jean-Baptiste Vuillaume violin and 1955 Arthur Copley (W.E Hill & Sons) bow\, Diane Bayard’s 1751 Antonio Gragnani violin and c.1925 Victor Fétique bow\, as well as François Leclerc’s c.1790-1810 Pietro Antonio Cateni cello and Gustav Prager bow are generously loaned by Canimex. \n  \nQuatuor Cobalt \nFondé à Montréal en 2017\, le Quatuor Cobalt occupe aujourd’hui une place singulière sur la scène canadienne par la cohérence de sa vision artistique et l’ampleur de ses projets. In addition to playing both with the Orchestra and in recital\, he sees to the development and showcasing of Casavant’s op. 3900 installed at the Maison symphonique in Montréal. \nJean-Willy Kunz has premiered numerous pieces for organ and orchestra\, and for solo organ\, by Tod Machover\, John Rea\, Samy Moussa\, Maxime Goulet\, and others. A highlight among his many solo performances at the Maison symphonique was a recital presented in 2017 in collaboration with NASA\, during which a live audio-video duplex with an astronaut aboard the International Space Station allowed for the first ever Earth-Space organ duet. \nHis interest and versatility in different styles of music are reflected in the various projects he has been involved with for several years\, and which shed new light on the pipe organ\, including jazz music in a duo with Branford Marsalis\, pop music with Rufus Wainwright\, and stage music with the Cirque du Soleil. His discography includes 15 recordings which reflect the broad range of his musical influences: a solo organ album\, Impressions with the jazz ensemble InSpirations\, a 2016 Juno-awarded album with the Montreal Symphony Orchestra\, and many more. \nJean-Willy Kunz studied with Louis Robilliard and with Mireille Lagacé\, before completing a doctorate in organ performance at McGill University with John Grew. He is an organ professor at the Conservatory of Music in Montréal and artistic director of the Canadian International Organ Competition. \n  \nJean-Willy Kunz est l’organiste en résidence de l’Orchestre symphonique de Montréal. Coward \n  \nLucy Landymore is an award-winning multi-percussionist\, drummer and composer. As a soloist\, she continues to give concerts of her own compositions in prestigious venues worldwide. As the drum kit soloist with the World of Hans Zimmer\, she frequently performs in sold-out arenas worldwide. She previously toured with Hans Zimmer Live\, which can be seen on the DVD Live in Prague. Hans Zimmer invited Lucy\, together with Igudesman & Joo\, to perform at the release of his new documentary Hollywood Rebel\, by performing special arrangements of his film scores at BBC Studios in Cannes. \nLucy has since been featured as a performer and composer on numerous TV and Radio stations showcasing her unique work\, including Sky TV with Michael Parkinson\, Deutsche Welle\, BBC 2\, BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge\, BBC Radio 1 and BBC Radio 3 among many others. Many international publications have featured Lucy’s work\, including the German Drums & Percussion magazine and the French Batterie magazine\, where Lucy was listed as one of the Top 10 New Drummers of 2019. \n  \nLucy Landymore est une percussionniste multi-instrumentiste\, batteuse et compositrice primée.
